Sempai Robert Kalinowicz:
2nd Dan Yoshukan has been practicing karate for over 10
years. He is an ACE certified Personal Trainer, has been teaching the
YMCA Fitness
Instructor Training Program for over 15 years, and lectures on physical
conditioning and nutrition. Robert has designed conditioning programs
specifically to complement karate. He believes that understanding of
physiology, movement mechanics, and mucle dynamics is a valuable aid in
both teaching and learning karate.

Sempai Malcolm Mazumdar:
1st Dan Yoshukan, is Chief Instructor of the LaSalle Yoshukan karate
club and a Y NDG karate club Instructor. Sempai Mazumdar has been a
Karate Quebec medallist and an NDG Karate Club alumnus since 1984,
trained by the pioneer instructors’ group at the NDG dojo. An educator,
musician and writer for over 30 years, his roots are in yoga and the
internal healing arts. Sempai Mazumdar teaches the importance of
meditation, breathing and the development of "internal" strength in the
martial arts.

Sempai Balgovind Pande:
1st dan Yoshukan, has been a Karateka for approximately 9 years. He has
participated in four provincial competitions (Kumite or fighting) and
was awarded four silver medals. Balgovind enjoys training with his
fellow Karatekas and is always ready for a sparring session!
Sempai Raluca Stanescu:1st
Dan Yoshukan, is chief instructor at the Academy Yoshukan at the
Gadbois recreational center and 2006 Canadian Champion of the women’s
masters kumite division. Raluca has been leading the members of the
Gadbois center since 2005. Even before attaining the ranks of a black
belt, Raluca participated to all events offered by our association and
that of Karate Quebec. She hold certifications in: refeering kata and
kumite level C; Levels A et B NCCP (National coaching certification
program); YMCA FIT program in strength training.

Sempai Mazen Farran:
1st Dan Yoshukan, has been practicing karate for more than 7 years. He
is several times medalist in karate competitions held in Québec. He is
also a karate instructor at theY NDG Karate Club. Professionally, Mr.
Farran is a civil engineer with more than 12 years experience including
an international practice. Parallel to his work, he is currently
completing his graduate studies in construction management at Concordia
University.

Sempai Sebastian Calistru:
1st Dan Yoshukan, 15 years old, started karate at the age of 7.
Sebastien started assisting teaching at Gadbois with his parents
(Raluca and Constantin) in 2005. Since then, Sempai Sebastien has
taught at the Gadbois summer camp last year, this year at the Montreal
Jewish YMCA camp and now teaches at the Y St-Laurent on a regular
basis. Sebastien has participated to all provincial competitions over
the last few years and always brought back a medal home. This year was
his best achievement, ranking 4th at the Quebec team selections and 2nd
at the Montreal Open in kumite.
Sempai Constantin Calistru:
1st Dan Yoshukan, has been practicing karate for more than 5 years.
Several times medallist at the provincial selections men’s masters
kumite division; Montreal Open – Gold in 2004 Silver in 2005 and Bronze
in 2006. Sempai Constantin teaches at the Gadbois Center and at the Y

Professionally, He has been in the multi media industry for the last 9
years and is a feature movie’s cameraman a photographer and Journalist.
Constantin specializes in Digital imaging, Computer graphics, 3D
Modeling and Presentation.
Sempai Henri Tchibozo:
1st Dan Yoshukan, started training at the age of 6. Henri joined karate
to stay healthy, fit physically and learn self-defense. Over the last 8
years of his training, Sampai Henri participated in more than 20
competitions. Originally in Ukraine, Henri was 3 times a gold and
silver medallist and 4 times bronze medallist. Henri has also
participated at the Quebec team selections in kumite. Sempai Henri is
now assisting teaching at the YMCA NDG and St-Laurent.
Sempai Sarah Perez:
1st Dan Yoshukan, who has just obtained her 1st Dan at 15, has been
practicing karate since the age of 6. This martial art has always been
a very important part of her life. Sarah is now an assistant teacher at
the Y St-Laurent. Sarah has won several medals at the provincial karate
tournaments last year and plans to pursue higher endeavors at this
year’s competitions.
Sempai Simon Mercier-Nguyen:1
st Dan Yoshukan, started training at the age of 6. Now 17, Simon was
twice a bronze medallist at the Quebec team selections in 2004-2005 and
Gold medallist at the Montreal Open championships in both and kumite in
2004. Not only is Simon a natural in the martial arts, but also in the
musical art. This year he has been invited to join the Young Westmount
Ochestra. In order to reach this rank, Simon has been 3 times a lauréat
Flutiste at a musical camp in Lanaudière from 2003- 2005 and was also
twice a Gardien Expert. While completing his collegiate studies at the
International College Marie de France, Simon is pursuing a
certification as a national lifeguard.

Charles teaches mainly at the Y St-Laurent and subs at the Serei
Academy. He has spent the last 7 years working as a technical trainer.
He finds that the practice of karate brings focus to someone’s life,
teaches us to do more with less; striving to do better and to be better
for one self and those we care for.
