The Yoshukan Karate Association
has based it's curriculum of advancement on the practice and
application on various kata that have been taught to martial
arts students for centuries.
The association places emphasis on the following three areas
of expertise: Application of Technique; Philosophy and
Character Development; and Adaptation of the style.
Specifically, the association believes that the application
of technique (whether in kumite or self-defence situations)
is as important as the demonstration of technique. Secondly,
that the development of character is dependent on the student
of the art being exposed to kumite practice. And finally,
that the style needs to continually evolve to remain grounded
in contemporary culture and bio-physical education practices.
Although there are obvious benefits to training in Yoshukan
karate, such as physical and mental fitness, self-defense
and stress reduction, Budo (martial art) Masters believe that
the true objective of karate is to allow us a tool to
develop our characters and come to enhance our feeling of
brotherhood. This philosophy is strongly embraced by
our association.
Advancement from one level to another is dependent upon following
an exam and exhibiting a performance of the established criteria
laid out in the YKA Technical Manual. Today the Yoshukan
Karate Association complete curriculum is: |

The translation of Yo/Shu/Kan is: Training
hall of continuous improvement and development. The Yoshukan
style of martial art offers superior advantages to the student
based upon it's comprehensive curriculum, focus on proper body
mechanics, and depth of applications. Furthermore, the
emphasis of the association is to ensure that the application
of technique is of equal importance as the demonstration of
technique.
The association intends to accomplish it's goals by establishing
an international standard of excellence and retaining the
services of YKA professors to develop it's members.
Naturally, the association will continue to train and grade
it's members based upon their understanding of the technical
manual and association curriculum.
The intention of the association is to provide equal and
unbiased instruction regardless of race, religion, gender
or nationality. All students will be afforded the same
opportunity for development, examination and fair and balanced
feedback on their performance. |
